Lack of equipment upkeep

It's interesting about this rental equipment bit. I wonder if anyone does it here. Most equipment I assumed belonged to the club. Now I'm just curious. LOL.

Yes, I doubt most clubs would have enough for 4 rings, but then, not often do you have a 4 ring trial.

It seems that in CT/MA area that even 2 ring trials rent their equipment for the show from Max 200. It works out good for us too, since Max 200 then sells the now 'used' (ie rented) equipment at a reduced price on the final day of the show. I guess it's good for the company: gets paid by the trial to rent new equipment, then sell it at a discount at the end.

Equipment

Cheryl you need to move here. You have so much to choose from great trainers, trials are close, every weekend, and all the different venues,USDAA, AKC, ASCA,DOGNA,UKI,CPE, and even TDAA.

Our Sheltie clubs owns our own, including timers and the display we just ordered. A a lot of clubs out here rent from MAD Agility Equipment, they just leave thier trailer at the show site for a month in the summer.

I am amazed at the poor shape much of the equipment is in that is used at trials in So. Cal. Some equipment at training centers are also in questionable state. I don't get it. These clubs & facilities are taking in mucho $'s, some boasting profits of many $$,$$$ thousands per trial.

Someone mentioned sandpaper in the chute?
Who uses sandpaper????
That in itself is dangerous - how can such equipment not be questioned by the judge?

In one trial the teeter collapsed as a dog was on it - and he dog was not overweight!

Another area where those ties pose a danger is when clubs simple tie the wings onto the jump standard & let the tie stick out right where a dog taking a tight turn over the jump will have their face flying past.

I can only dream that Max200 equipment was used everywhere :)

Hmm.. this is all very interesting. The equipment I trial on is.. scary. We have one kennel club (poor as heck) and they own the equipment, and no one here rents out the stuff. Our chutes are not padded, didn't know they should be!! The material used on the contact equipment is some kind of felt carpet? Not great on a muddy day.

I should take pictures of our stuff and post them. It would be like a horror post.

As a committee member of the dogsports committee of said poor kennel club however, we are always concerned about safety, and I'll feedback some of the stuff I'm seeing here to the rest of the team. I'm eagerly waiting to hear what else we should be doing!
