Layla of Nattering Springs, December 15, 2005 - June 7, 2022

Chris, there's many people who don't even come close to the accomplishments Layla made to make this world a better place. You shared your lovely girl for so many years with others who I'm sure took joy in her presence. I think I know the depth of your loss but your attitude of joy and gratitude for having had her in your life is wonderful. Please know we are sincerely sending you and your family blessings and hugs. I know Layla is frolicking at the bridge right now.
 
There are many special Shelties here Chris but Layla took special to a whole new level. She has done so much more good in her short time on this Earth than a lot of humans do in a whole lifetime. She has helped so many people and got to see and experience so much thanks to your care. I don't think you can find a better example of the perfect Sheltie/parent relationship. I hope she is saying hello to Harley for me and playing with all her Sheltie friends.

Layla Sable Lafferty died at home in the arms of her Mama, surrounded by her family. In her rich lifetime, she served as a member of the Red Cross Therapy Dog Pack at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for fifteen years, her proudest and most fulfilling role. Layla brought comfort to students and faculty at The Industrial College of the Armed Forces as well. In her career, she met the Secretary of Defense, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Gary Sinise and the Lieutenant Dan Band. Layla attended Sunday services at St. Peter’s Church, where she also helped with Children’s Chapel and Vacation Bible School. A seasoned traveler, Layla went Paris three times, where she opened both doors and hearts. She left the world a better place than she found it. Remember her with joy.
