Leg Lifting

I've never had one ounce of problems with my guys. I just had Granite neutered a few weeks ago, but he's never lifted his leg in my house. Now he lifted his leg in my friends house though :biggrin2:

I'm curious, for those of you with intact males, was house-training more difficult?

Bentley is my only male--and he was neutered by the time he came to us.

I feel like some people say they have issues with marking and others don't. Is it genetic? Is it training?

I'm curious since we plan on our next dog being a male, and we plan to keep him intact for longer to ensure his growth plates close.

Ruu is 13 months old, intact. House training was a breeze once he realized what we wanted. We've only neutered our dogs for medical reasons, never just to neuter and we've only had issues with marking with one of our males..he likes to mark our chair in the living room, he's 14 though, so he can pretty much do what he wants. Ruutu never marked anything in my house, but he did mark a lot where we trained for Agility, he was about 7 months then, mainly because it's a person's yard so lots of doggy good stuff and also when I was in PA, he was 9 months then, at my other training place he was marking every time he smelt a female.. that being said though, his sisters (the 2 females he'd mark after) were coming into heat as was my female. But like I said, he never ever marks around my house or in general, just where he trains.... we'll be working on breaking that when we start Agility again this spring.

I got my boy as a one year old, and he was already potty trained. He was intact for years, and never (not once) marked indoors. (He was eventually neutered.)
