Lepto Pros/Cons?

Minnie receive this vaccine every year when we have mice and presumably rats that live everywhere, and she has no side effects

Thank you for sharing! We have mice as well, field mice, who managed to build a gigantic nest in our step leading out to the back. I nearly had a stroke, because I sit on that step! My Dad sealed the perimeters of the wooden step, so hopefully, they're not back building their sub-division. LOL! The wildlife has four acres, must they be right there!? Haha!

Spirit is a color headed white (tri-color). She has not been tested for the MDR1 mutation but both of her parents are negative so she is most likely negative as well. I would have to pull out the vet records to see how old my younger dog was when she was vaccinated. I think she was about 9 months. But don't hold me to that. I honestly don't remember. She might have been a little older.

And yes, down here the weather is never cold enough to kill fleas and ticks, so unfortunately both dogs have to also be on a flea and tick preventive plus a heartworm preventive year round.

Thanks so much for your reply! No need to pull out the records, haha! My puppy's parents are MDRI-negative as well, but my vet thought it'd be a good idea to double check it with the proper testing. I think my first Sheltie, also a blue, had the gene mutation, but the testing was never available until a few years ago--and I remember it being over $100. She was 13-14 at the time. The pricing has come way down, which is great.

We had ticks in late fall, even in New England! It's terrible! The heartworm is something I used to give from spring to the first frost of the season, but it seems now the vet wants me to give it year round due to parasites. (My senior managed to get hookworm a few months before she passed, and even with me picking up her poop diligently, I'm worried about my puppy contracting it. So far, knock on wood, worm free!) Again, thanks so much for sharing your experience!
