Poor Ginger, feel better soon.

Glad you brought her to the vet now you know why she's not feeling well. The ticks are bad this year. So far no problem for Kia with the Seargents, natural remedy spray. Please keep us posted on her recouperation.:yes:
 
Ginger's symptoms are classic Lyme! Barkley has had it two years in a row now, and you will find that within two days on the Doxy she will be much better. When Barkley first came down with it last year he was more tired than usual and then began limping too. I stupidly treated him for the limp, which just wouldn't go away, before we realized he had Lyme. After a day on the Doxy he was himself again. You have to watch though for relapses...Barkley had to have two rounds of Doxy last year over the summer and then again this spring. Now I know what symptoms to watch for though.

While Ginger is taking the Doxycyclene keep her on a good probiotic since it's such a long run of medication. Some milk thistle is also a good preventative for effects to their liver and kidneys while they take antibiotics. SmartPack Canine makes a good one...it's called Canine Puriphy.

I'm so glad you have a diagnosis, and can now treat the cause of the problem. Ginger should start feeling like herself quickly now.

I had a inkling it was Lymes. I remembered that Barkley had a bout of Lymes last year, so I re-read that post. Sure enough the symptoms were similar.

What kind of probiotic do you recommend? Regular people yogurt? SmartPack's web site isn't working-- what is the milk thistle for and why does she need it?

Already she's up and around a little bit. Yea!!

You can buy several probiotics in the pet food store, but a canine nutritionist recommended Dr. Goodpet's Digestive Enzymes to me years ago and that's what I've always used. They will ship to you very quickly and Shelties only need 1/8 tsp twice daily in their food so a jar lasts forever! Here's the link:

Milk Thistle is a great holistic supplement any time an antibiotic is used because it protects the liver and kidneys from the damage chemical drugs can do. I use it whenever any of my dogs are taking any medication, and on any dog that has above normal kidney values. It really is great stuff.
