Little Sheltie?

We were asked today if Lacey is a miniature collie. typical question these days.
She was the tiny one in the litter and was a huge 2.5 lbs at 8 weeks when I brought her home. She is fine boned and that makes her look smaller than she is.

She is just under 14" and my vet said she was 19lbs, but I think they must have had problems weighing her. She weighed 17lbs 2 months ago and she has not gained anything. Unless she has put on lbs of muscle. I can feel her ribs and she has a good waist. I'm going to assume the scale was off for some reason. i put her on my scale and it showed about 16lbs. I'm pretty sure that is off too since it's hard to weight a dog on a little square people scale.

Destin is about that size- right around 14". he weighs about 14 lb too. he had his annual this month on the 9th. I weighed him twice (13.7) both times. I do think he's small because all the rest of my dogs are bigger than him:winkgrin:

Funny because my thoughts on Cruz's size always vary depending on who we are hanging out with. Cruz is 15.5, which is right in size. Our trainer has 2 shelties that are 16.5, and Cruz always looks so small compared to them. They are also much fuller coated than he is, so that makes a difference. Put him around our breeder's dogs who are 14 and he looks huge! It must be fun in your house with the varying sizes :biggrin2:

and I always thought that Cruz was on the bigger size- I guess because he reminds me so much of Jocu who is 16.75". he's got the skimpy coat too.
I recently took some pix of the four together on stairs so they are staggered by size. gotta get them on shutterfly.......

Because he was a biiiig baby! I think already almost 12" when we brought him home at 10 weeks. Everyone thought he was going to go over, and then he decided "nope, I'm done now!"

He doesn't match better send him to Huntsville to live as a barbarian flyball dog

My two youngsters are officially small - they've both measured into that height (13.75" or under) in agility. I think they are almost identical in height, but here's the odd thing. I think Epic looks small, but Angus does not. Both have big coats and are built the same. Musing on this the other day I decided it was to do with their head carriage. Angus holds his head much higher than Epic, although they both have good length necks. Angus also has longer hocks which make his legs look longer.
Revel is at least 15" but now has a very thin coat. However because he is a stronger type he still looks much bigger than the other two, but when they all stand side by side the height difference at the withers really isn't that great, (unless you really flatten the youngsters' coats.)

I compete in a lot of obedience shows that are held with the breed shows and I am always being told by the Sheltie people that Simba is very big. He is 15.5" but is very built up. He is a very sturdy dog and looks bigger then other Shelties even though he isn't that much taller. They seem to be breeding them very small here though. I don't expect my new puppy will be as built as Simba but I reckon he will be about the same height :smile2:
