Lost my companion

Ron, my heart goes out to you. Please know that Rex did not die in misery: you were there to hold him and ease his steps across the threshold to Rainbow Bridge. This is a comforting place to grieve the loss of your dear friend.

Im so sorry for your loss of Rex. I know its hard, but try not to beat yourself up. Rex sounds like he was loved up until the moment he passed on. That is all a sheltie can ask for.

I also know how it feels to lose a sheltie and feel helpless. My Brandie was only 8 years old when she passed on. other than being over weight she had no health issues. My family went away on a cruise. A few days into our vacation, there was a bad thunder storm and she passed away from a heart attack. I could not have been more heart broken. It took me 5 years to get another sheltie puppy.

My thoughts are with you and I think we all second guess regardless of what we do for them. We have had and lost many fur kids over the years and even when we have done everything we can the question I ask myself was it too soon for them or was it just too soon for us.

Only Trinket a year ago last February was way too soon at 4 yrs of age and I know the vet and ourselves did not take the right steps and I think about her loss with guilt everyday as a result.

So sorry for your loss. We lost out 7 year old sheltie this past Dec. to colon cancer. We were told her had 4-6 months to live...he only survived for 2 months. We tried to everything...but nothing worked. The thought never crossed my mind that our sheltie would die so young. We thought Dakota would live to be older too. Don't second guess your actions...there is nothing you could have done to prevent the cancer. Your sheltie was very blessed to have you by their side. I pray that God will send you comfort during this difficult time.

Thank you

Thank you all for your kind words of support. As with other great dogs , Rex will always be remembered. The pain of loosing him will fade with time, and I know this. I will love him always. Thank you again.
