Hi Everyone-
My 5 year old Sheltie boy has just been tragically diagnosed with Lymphoma. We are taking him to an oncologist in the morning. We are shocked and devastated and are just looking for support or any information from others who may have gone through this. We are hopeful he can be treated with chemotheraphy but are uncertain as to how dogs handle this treatment. Any information would be so helpful to us, we are just heartbroken.
Thank you
Gunners Mom

My parents' chihuahua had a mast cell tumor when she was 6 years old. She had 8 chemotherapy treatments and was prescribed predisone.

Other than one treatment she had no side effects from the chemo. One time she was lethergic, had loose stool and wouldnt eat, but she was fine by the next morning. The oncologist lowered her dosage and she didnt have any issues after that.

It's been 2 years since her diagnosis and treatment and she is doing great.

I hope the oncologist has some positive news for you and it can be treated. Keep us updated.

Your dog's age works in his favor. He's young and should be a good candidate for treatment. My niece had a dog years ago with lymphoma that was treated with chemo. He did fairly well on it too, with limited side effects, and survived for quite a while afterward.

Sending good thoughts and prayers for your boy. Please keep us posted on how he does!

Thoughts and prayers to you and your puppy... lyphoma really sucks ...

Theres a couple good dog cancer books out there,, i bought mine digitally thru amazon..The dog cancer survival guide, and The dog cancer diet... gives you good ideas of what to expect and what to do...

I lost my 6 year old to Lyphoma this spring,,, reacted badly to the chemo, and wasnt a good candidate for the 2nd round. although i think he was a rare case., and most times it does work...
