Making Your Own Food

Hi, does anyone have any recipes for making their own food? Would like to try my on it, so any idea would be a help.

Out of a dog treat recipe book:
ECONOMY COOKIES
Easy and economical to make. A nice, light, beige cookie. Makes about 50 (using small K-9 Cutter).
1.3 cup (75ml) margarine (butter), softened
3 cups (750ml) whole wheat flour
1/2 cup (125ml) powdered skim milk
1/4 tsp (1ml) garlic powder
3/4 cup (175ml) water, room temperature
1 egg, beaten

1. In a large mixing bowl, cream margarine and flout with a pastry cutter and set aside.

2. In a small bowl, dissolve powdered skim milk and garlic powder in water and whisk in beaten egg.

3. Make a well in the flour mixture and gradually stir in egg mixture until well blended.

4. Knead dough on a floured surface, about 3-4 minutes, until dough sticks together and is easy to work with.

5. With a rolling pin, roll dough to between 1/4" and 1/2" thickness.

6. Cut with a K-9 Biscuit Cutter and place on a lightly greased baking sheet.

7. Bake 50 minutes at 325 (degrees F) (160 (degrees) C).

8. Cool on a rack until hard and store, at room temperature, in a container with a loose-fitting lid.

This interests me alot. I think it would be a good thing to make your own food because then you know exactly what they are eating and there would be no worries of dog food contamination (remember that? I had a couple friends who lost dogs  )

But I keep hearing that voice in the back of my head saying that I shouldn't give my animals any kind of people food. Keep them on dry kibble, that's what's best for them.

Well, is it really?

Ok, now I'm researching and everyone has a different opinion on what you should and shouldn't feed your dog when giving them real food.

One site says add yeast, another one says no yeast.

One site says use garlic, another one says garlic is bad.

One says NO raw meat, another says DO cook the meat.

How the heck do you know what to feed?

I know dogs who are fed the RAW diet, which consists of raw meat. They do well on it. There are plenty who hate the raw diet though. Probably the dog food companies.
