Male neutering questions

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I ordered one of those inflatable pillow cones. I'm home with the dogs all day so I can monitor him although I do worry about night time. He has never had surgery, so I have no idea if he will leave the incision alone or try to lick it. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again. Roberta

Tyrone update - Tyrone got neutered 6 days ago. He was sleepy the first day but back to normal the day after that. I'm taking him out on a leash rather than letting him run around like a wild animal in the backyard. He is not happy about the cone. i got one of those inflatable neck pillows, but I doubt it will work with him.

Question for those who had a male dog neutered - the instruction sheet from the vet says he should wear a cone for 14 days. That seems like a lot to me. How long did your dog wear a cone? Attached is a picture of my cone head. Robertatyrone-cone-5-3-2021.jpg

Eli never needed a cone for his neuter luckily. Meadow only wore the neck pillow at night for about a week. They left their incisions alone. It depends on how obsessive your pup is about stuff like that! They can get those stitches out pretty fast if they have a chance.

Tyrone is so handsome I'd love to see a whole body photo of him.

Both my boys wore shorts so no cone at all however I think it was around day 7 when they no longer tried to lick the incision so shorts came off then. If I caught them checking it out a stern leave it stopped them.
What a sweetheart Tyrone is...he’s saying‘I’ll be good mom, honest I will...just take off this stupid cone’ lol

two weeks does seem like a long time to wear the cone of shame.

My female sheltie, Minnie, qore a onesie, it worked out really well. We need more pics of your puppy!

looks like a sheltie salad in a bowl.

Cute!!!!

Brodie wore his neck pillow 24/7 until his stitches came out. He was actually due to have them removed on a Thursday, if I remember, but we had to be away on Friday, so the vet came on Saturday to remove as we did not want him unsupervised after. He spent an extra 2 days with his neck pillow. At first, we put it on/off to give him a break, but then just left it on 24/7. It did not restrict his activity, didn't get caught on stuff, he actually seemed to like having his own personal pillow to nap on.

As far as how long, I think that depends on your vets recommendation. Not each type of neutering is the same; some glue, some stitch, some are minor, some more invasive. I would ask you vet how they would like him to wear the cone.
