thanks...its about 1cm in diameter right now..he knows with me i'll tell him I dont care what he does make a 6" incision do what you have to in order to get clean margins! Ive been reading (thats an understatement) if its a grade I with clean margins would you also opt to treat with Prednisone if it was your dog? Or just take a wait and see??
This sounds very similar to my mom's chihuahua. She had a mast cell tumor removed from her little leg at 6 years old. She actually had it for 6 months, but the vet said it was a fatty tumor and to just keep an eye it. A few months later, it doubled in size, so we had it removed. It was on the inside of the leg by the patella. We didn't know it was cancerous until the biopsy results came back. Hers was grade 2, stage 1 (I think), but thankfully did not spread to her lymph nodes. She had 8 chemo treatments & prednisone because they couldn't get clean margins in surgery. That was 3 years ago. No mass has returned and she is happy & healthy.
Sounds like you caught it early, so hopefully, it is grade 1 and the surgeon can get clean margins.
Oh brother - I can feel your pain having just gone thru Ally's toe amputation for a grade 1 sarcoma (spindle cell). At 1 cm you caught it pretty early so I'm really hoping for you and Tucker that it's an easy removal with clean margins.
Our vet was able to get 4 - 5 mm clean margins on Ally's tumor thank the Lord.
Tucker is young and strong - I've gotta think he'll be fine. Ally blew me away how well she has done post-op, and she's 11 ! You have my sympathy and sending good thoughts and wishes your way.
