I am really interested in nosework... it is apparently really good for building confidence in soft dogs (like mine!).

Can I ask where you and Maverick learned it? Did you take a class? I know there is an Odor Recognition Test the dogs need to pass before they can trial; what was that like?

Unfortunately, nosework doesn't seem to have made it out here to the edge of the Plains - the nearest scheduled ORT is something like six hours away, on the other side of Iowa! It would be awesome to get one of the local agility/obedience clubs interested in it.

I have seen it help build confidence in dogs. Maverick is a soft dog, who would stress if he thought he made a mistake in agility. He loves nosework because he is able to think thru problems.
We are lucky enough to have an instructor at the training school we go to. Nosework is still pretty new in MN. We had 1st trial a year ago in the state.
ORT is a lot like the container search at this trial. There are 12 identical boxes in 1 or 2 lines. You have 3 min to find and alert the correct box with scent in it. You have to do a ORT for each odor. Birch for level 1, anise for level 2, and clove for level 3.

I'm late to the party but congrats on the titles!! Thanks for sharing your videos, too. I had no idea that was what an actual trial would look like. I love his alerts, too. Very clear signals!
