Mr. Max had his first tournament last weekend. He wasn't really ready but was able to run still. He was successful on Saturday, finishing about 50% of his races, which is more than I expected as he has been having some real problems with chasing.

Sunday was a different story. I had to pull him after the first couple races. He was terrible! Was a frustrating weekend, but I'm proud that he was able to do at least a few to earn his FD!

I don't know a ton about flyball, but to earn his title in his first competition, I think that's awesome! He looked totally confident out there. Congratulations!

Pretty great! Sca's first time was singles and pretty embarrassing (he had to be held 100% of the time) Next was a team race and it sounds like Max did at least as well if not better. I am betting he will be flying in another race or so

How tall is Mr Max? Is he height dog material? He looked like it and was going pretty fast so the team has to be loving him (well and he is a Sheltie so they MUST love him )

Great to have another Sheltie on the flyball rolls :hugs

Hehe, he wasn't all that fast! I released him a bit late so I had to time it watching the video, but he rand around 7.6s. Unfortunately, he measured in at 14.25 so he sets them a bit too high for NAFA. We have a U-FLI tourney coming up, so there is hope that he can be a height dog for that.

And yes, the team loves him but I think it's more because he's cute and less for his speed! I even overheard a comment during one of his races when he wasn't doing so good that went something like "well...at least he's cute"

Nonsense! 7.6 for a small beginner dog is great. As to his height....... I wish you could have made it to MBFrench's for the Sheltie gathering as we talked about measuring and there were a couple of folks that showed and knew the techniques. At 14.25 he is close and you might have him shrink a bit... It seems that you can effect height a bit on how the dog leans, also if he is that fresh he is not super relaxed probably so might be on his toes. I would do more measurements for practice and get him used to it. Also measure him minus his flyball harness so they get all the way down. I am betting you might get him to drop that 1/4.

Spitfire is 13.9 and might be less but there is no way we can get down to 12. So he puts the bar 1" over minimum (of course he is no where near ready though)

UFli measure leg not height but we almost never have them here so I don't worry to much about their rules. Oh and Sca the moose is 18.5 and bigger than 2 of the BCs on our team so he is not even close to a height dog

Good luck and keep us posted on Max

OMG
he looks awesome, who says he's not fast??
Course I don't know much about flyball... but that looks awesome for a baby green dog!!!
