Oberon does the same thing. When it's bedtime he waits for an invitation before joining us. If it doesn't come "in time" he starts pawing the bed.

My pre-Sheltie Dow was trained to only come up when invited. The last year he would jump up and give you the look of 'you really are not going to kick off a dying old man are?' Of course he could always stay. Then I got Sca and had delusions of training him. I have long since given up on that idea
