I have just had confirmation that my 13 week old puppy has the MDR1 gene has anyone else had this and what did you do about preventing lungworm ie using Advocat

Welcome to SN.

I don't have any first hand knowledge as my shelties have all tested negative...but I have read that Advocat is not recommended for dogs with the MDR1 gene.

Hopefully someone else on here will be able to give you reliable information on what if any product that prevents lungworm is safe for your pup.

I had to look up lungworm as its not something brought up much.

I use Sentinel/Interceptor for Gavin even though he is MDR normal.
I know they have had supply issues in the past, but I think they are available now. Sentinel has flea birth control in it (it won't kill existing fleas), Interceptor is for heartworm/parasites only.

I agree, if your pup is mutant/normal or mutant/mutant I would stick with a product that is Ivermectin-free, such as Sentinel or Interceptor.
