Lucky for Meggie you have people you know at the shelter. She is adorable and who can resist those Sheltie kisses.

Shame on those owners for leaving her behind if they did. Another thought is you said you last saw her in the yard around July 4th. It could be she got spooked by the fireworks and ran off and when it was time for their move they still hadn't found her. Just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. :confused2:
 
Honestly, I am trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, but in our area there is only one place where stray dogs are taken, the same in the town that she was picked up in (which is 25 miles away) and there were no inquiries for her at either shelter. If I lost my dog over the 4th I would certainly call the shelter and the fact that they didn't kind of makes me feel like they didn't really care anyway.
 
Meggie is adorable!

Shelties are notorious for getting and becoming feral....only to become great house dogs the moment they are captured.

I also experience shelters that do not keep inquiries. Especially after a length of time.

If I were you, I would somehow check to see that this family isn't missing her. Just in case she wasn't abandoned. It would be heartbreaking if they were still missing her.
 
Welcome to the forums, and congratulations on your beautiful Maggie girl! I know what you mean though about not being able to believe that someone could do that to such a loving dog. Our rescue boy Cody, was basically was only adopted by his previous owners because they wanted to try and salvage their marriage. But, when their marriage ended up failing anyway they were just going to euphanise him and move on with their lives. Luckily someone that works for our vet knew that my family are sheltie lovers and always have been, and that we had recently lost one and her father lived by this couple. The lady ended up calling my Mom to come by to check him out, and by golly he was so dirty that he looked almost blonde, at that time he was 11 months old, and the owners had him for 6 months and had never given him a bath! He's a rather large sheltie, he's about 18" tall and looked malnourished. It was just a wonder that he was still alive, because last year we had a terrible winter here in MD with record snowfall and Cody was basically left to fend for himself outside through 2 blizzards! When we got that call it was basically like God calling out to us to tell us to adopt this baby boy. Before that we had never had a rescue dog, but they truly are the best! It took awhile, but Cody eventually has come around, and he loves hugs, and affection. I bet the same will happen for Maggie! So, again congratulations on your new baby and I hope that she brings you many years of joy! ^^
