Mental Game Help

If, however, I just play, as in notes go in eyes and come out fingers, no or minimal processing involved, I can get clean performances. I basically have to accept that a) I know how to do this already, and b) I've done it a million times, and just play it and move to the next page.

Go to start line with feeling of gratitude. Being grateful for ability to run, for beautiful dogs, for being able to enjoy the day... fill the blank...

Excellent advice. Have fun, trust your instincts, focus on YOUR goals, and be grateful for the moment.

Just looked at the running order for this weekend. Trying to psych myself up instead of psyching myself out.

We are competing against a couple of the best 16" dogs in the country.

Any tips?

I'm assuming this is a regular run-of-the-mill "local" trial & not a special event.

In that case, it shouldn't matter what other teams will be there & it shouldn't change how you run your dog. I wouldn't change my handling strategy after seeing how someone else runs either - you never know what goals others have for any particular run (well maybe except for a Nationals final round or something like that - for which I assume this trial will not be).

Personally I love to see "top teams" at a trial, especially if in the same class as us. They don't always win, or run flawlessly - we are all much about the same - I fear no competitors - I run how I want to according to what my goal is for that said run - and that doesn't change because of who the competition is, or has been in the past.

Xanax? Just kidding!

Remember, you're not competing against them. You're just trying to get a Q. Yeah it's cool if you hold your ground next to the big dogs, but what's more important is you and your dog...your team! You get a nice relaxing day with your awesome dog and that's all that matters :smile2:

Very well said and as you have always said Ashley "at the end of the day you get take the best dog home"!!!:smile2:

A wise person on this forum (:wink2:) shared this quote to the forum not to long ago :

"Any day that you and your dog are healthy enough to walk to the start line is a good day!"

Sound advice Ashley :wink2:. You'll do just fine! :smile2:

Well Having to run against the #1 ranked 16" dog in North America at our last 2 trials with my Pup Storm in steeplechase, all I can say is take a deep breath, relax, go out there and do your thing, What will be will be you might just be pleasantly surprised. Enjoy being able to run against some of the best in the country and watch closely and learn everything you can from them. GOOD LUCK

Hey When Favour laid down a 32.26 I knew there was no way in H*ll that Stormy was going to match that I didn't expect her to do 40.

Favour 6 years old Multiple AAC regional, national, and USDAA titles been to the worlds twice, against
Storm 2 years old 1 Regional run at 18 months and 2 days old old DNF'd that, and then just 4 local trials since. We go out and grab a second with a clean run at 34.16, at first I was A: stunned and then second on Cloud Nine it was like we had just won the Lotto I had people coming over to us all day giving us congratulations On the excellent run, so you just never know and that was for a second place run.

The worst thing for me was being slotted #1 of the 16" dogs at the last trial we had and there were no 10" dogs so Stormy and I were first Up to run for every single event, Yech, I would take running against some of the best in the country as the #2 or 3 out of the gate any day over that experience.

We ran against Favor last month--I had no idea who she was and couldn't believe how good she was! Then I talked to Lynda and realized :)
