Merlin Magic at his 3rd Trial

Merlin made me proud yesterday when he managed another second in Introductory Jumping:smile2:

He is really gaining confidence and has started to bark at me to hurry up in the ring!

There was one bad moment, sadly, when a dog came off the course into the waiting area and attacked Merlin. It was a proper scuffle which shook us both and Merlin was very sensitive around other dogs in the afternoon. But, as my mum said to me, in a place where there are lots of dogs these sort of things are going to happen occasionally and you have to move on.

Aside from that we are avoiding the a-frame because he is not happy with it yet.

Enjoy the vid, we had a fun time!

:winkgrin:Go Merlin!! Well done on your second second!!

What a dreadful thing though that he was attacked! Hopefully Merlin is well adjusted enough that he'll be able to put something like that behind him. It was nice to see him enjoying all of his runs and lovely lashing tail at the end so looks as if it didn't knock his confidence too much. I don't know what the BAA rules are but I think if something like that happened at a KC event then the dog would get its "card marked". I would have thought they would shut the entrance 'gate' once there was a dog working in the ring to prevent something like that happening?

I loved the photo of Merlin wearing his rosette, what a nice one! Well done once again.:smile2:

Thanks Julia. Usually if they are aware a dog can be odd they do close the exits, but it is reliant on the owner being honest. On this occasion no one was aware (aside from the owner) that this might occur.

It did fluster Merlin a little and he took a real dislike to a beagle who stood next to us in a queue. The beagle was completely friendly but Merlin growled and snapped at it. That was the only sign he had been spooked, so hopefully we can get past it quickly.

He's looking great! Just keep him happy on the course and I'm sure you'll get over the A-frame issue soon :wink2:

Looking good Merlin! I always chuckle at agility videos as I could see Spitfire decided the course was doing repeated laps through tunnel :o The boy is a flake.

Oh and Mr Merlin has a fantastic looking coat now.

Thanks all.:biggrin2:

We best keep Spitfire away from Tunnel Torment then! Sooo many dogs just couldn't resist. It was nice to see handlers accepting their dog had made a mistake by entering the first tunnel and then letting them do the other tunnels too. I thought that was really good and I said if Merlin did a tunnel I would let him do the rest as well, since we would already be eliminated.

Looks like Merlin is getting more and more confident out there. Good for you for not forcing him on the a-frame since he's not ready.

I can't believe that a dog ran out onto the course and attacked him. That is horrible. You are lucky that Merlin wasn't hurt or further traumatized. If it were me, I'd likely file a complaint with the venue in which you're competing. If I can't assure myself (and my dog) that playing with me is safe, I wouldn't want to play. The organization putting on those events should do something about that.

It never occurred to me to complain, I chalked it up to experience. If I knew who the woman was or even the dog I would email the people in charge and tell them. It's such a shame, but we move on.

Anyway Merlin had his second display practice, which went well even he isn't too sure about all the noise of the other dogs banging the equipment.

The Beachside arena only has one more competition arranged, so I do so hope they are planning more because there are no other BAA ones near me, and I have so loved it:fl

He's comming along nicely Sophie, My Stormy would NEVER survive tunnel torment Just wouldn't happen LOL. she'd be in those baby's faster then you could blink.
