Microchip ID card

When the number comes up on the scanner, it does not identify a registry code like 24P00000000 or HA1111111. It's just a number. The "master microchip internet lookup tool" brings all the registries linking into one lookup box, except the one 2 of my 3 dogs belong to.

Order today -- takes "4-6 weeks".

What shocks me is how buried that link is. It's not in the "manage pet profile" or "manage pets list". It is buried in "manage my account" and then it is a list over to the left side, last item, that just says "Pet ID card".

Don't you think that should be along with the order tags, or manage my pet's profile, or something?

Strange.

Maybe under their customer service section on their website, you could drop a note and make the suggestion that this is a very attractive feature to the pet owners and they might want to make it more prominent, more easily accessible on their site.

OK -- the correct term is "Master Internet-based Application" or "Master Internet Lookup Tool" rather than master database. I meant the site Ann referred us all to some time ago which is the one that you posted as a link. Notice 24-Hour Petwatch is NOT listed there. I got all three listed with one that IS listed there for safety sake, that would be Home Again since Cubby's chip is with them.

Not master "database" -- master "lookup site" to correct my terminology. However, 2 of my 3 would not turn up at this "lookup site" so now they do through my Home Again profile.

Sorry, I'm a programmer so when you say database, I literally start thinking of databases.. technical nonsense. The point is, not all microchip registries are linked to that service. I would like to ask a shelter/vet what they do when they find a microchip on a found pet. Do they use that website, or something else? If it's not that website.. I wanna know what that something else is!

Curious.. have you tried looking up the microchip number just to see what comes up? When I typed in Missy's #, it brought up both registries she's on, HomeAgain and AKC Reunite, so that's good. I just wonder if maybe the list of registries they use is out-of-date?

Not a computer type here -- medical transcription. Sorry.

Exactly, though, the question what DO every one of my local shelters and vets do?

Lost dog, found by, taken to, scanned by, HOW do they look up the chip? Do they use that lookup site? "Not registered" "No information" Do they then go, hmmm. Try 24 hour petwatch site, those weirdos? Do they try each registry in order and put the chip # in?

Don't you think it would be good to have all your chips have a code or preface that might identify the registry? 24P or HA or 911 or whatever? Nope. Chip, random numbers. Could be anyone. Even credit cards 1st 4 numbers give the card type. Not rocket science.

SO, since the data base we were in are stand alone loners who don't join the lookup site, I wanted to get also in with participating people.

Now, if I type any one of my three animals into that universal lookup site I get my info to show up via Home Again's registry. If I go to 24 hour petwatch site all three show up because I have them there too. If I go to Home Again all three show up because it is direct to their registry. All the dogs wear a collar tag with the chip # and phone number to call if found (2 are Petwatch, 1 is Home Again). No scanning needed, the number is on the collar. So is a regular tag with contact. So is the county license which is registered to me and my contacts. AND I carry shot records, registration papers, photos in my phone, links to my blog in my phone, and I will carry the microchip ID card as this thread referenced, just to go for a walk around the block. What's wrong with this world?
