Can you post pics? A sable merle is a sheltie who has one sable and one blue merle parent and carries the coloring of both. Is she a puppy? If so, it'd be easier to tell if she's a sable merle, as they get older and they're fur gets longer it's sometimes harder to see the merleing. As for how long her fur will be, there's no way of knowing unless you've met the parents, then you can get a general idea of her fur length/thickness as an adult. I'm not sure what you mean by "is she a good blood". Did you get her from a reputable breeder? Maybe someone more experienced in breeding could answer.:confused2:

I suspect Dickens is a sable merle, but it's really hard to tell. He's the offspring of a pure-for-sable mother and a blue merle. Out of seven pups, none were listed as merled, which I find a bit strange; but if any of the pups were to be merles, he was the one. Not really a problem unless you mean to breed them, in which case, you need to take care that they're not bred to another merle.

I happen to love that pic of the sable merle in the link that you posted- while she is not mine, I did take that pic after a conformation show and meeting her inspired me to get a sable merle.

this is my sable merle- Cranberry as puppy about 8 weeks
and all grown up

I also have a sable (mahogany), a biblack and a biblue- group pic

Do you have any pix of Mika that you can share with us?

A picture would help us be able to determine if she is a sable merle. Not sure what you mean by good blood. While many kennel clubs do not like sable merles for conformation (as in there is no standard for them as they do with blues) as long as they are not a double merle there is no real difference other then color/pattern. If you mean blood lines as in pedigree I do not know how we would know that without a lot more information.

Double merles have a tendency to be deaf and or blind as well as other defects. It is one of the reasons that sable merles are not as desired, because it can be difficult as they get older to determine if they are a merle or not. This is because sable can be anywhere from a golden with or without black shading to a mahogany a much darker brown but still brown with or without black shading. So with a sable merle there can be the lighter tones which would indicate a merle pattern that is almost the same color as the more normal sable coloring. Due to this if they are not listed properly people can make mistakes which end up with dogs having a double dose of the merle gene which can cause the defects mentioned.

Just for the record not all sable merles are due to a blue breeding with a sable. Jester's parents for example the mother is a chw sable merle and the sire is a tri color.

At any rate unless we could see we could not even guess....we need pictures...
