Miko's first Rally trial

Congratulations on a fine debut ! It makes you feel really good to have succeeded with what has been a challenge.

I had the same thing last weekend, when our first station was fast forward from a sit. I can't tell you how relieved I was that Snap didn't start jumping and lunging and wanting to run with me!

I had to laugh because that is what Diva does on fast times. She jumps straight up in the air. Bong Bong. At least she does it in heel position.:wink2:

Thanks everyone. It's been a long journey this last month and a half. Today, Miko Q'd with 89 points (2nd place - but trust me, I saw the winner, and she was awesome!). Miko was WAY WAY out there today. I'm not sure why (maybe because we did it later in the morning). His sits were far away. It's like, he'd do his back up sit, but didn't sit, so I'd have to say it again, so he'd back up more. Ugh. Obviously, this judge was nice. And his heels, my gawd. Can you see it in the videos how far away he is? Let's just say he used ALL of his 6' lead. Yikes!

All in all though, I think he did great. He did his front left/rights really well. I saw a woman do the 360 the wrong way and I had to double check the sign before I went. He actually kept up more with me today, just far far away. Oh, watch me after the 3 steps back. I do a side step. Watch for Miko ducking the sign :rolleyes2: So so sad.

Here's his two runs (or whatever you call it).
Leg 1
Leg 2

And here's a photo of Miko with his ribbons and coaster

Great job. One more to go and then title.:smile2: he has come a long way.

Cheryl - congrats on your 2nd Q you guys will have your title in no time :wink2: It was great to meet you guys and sorry dinner didn't work out Friday night. They think they might have figured out how to have agility at the specialty permanently so hopefully it works out and you'll join us again

Nice job, Cheryl! You guys looked great! And Miko is so cute trotting around the ring :biggrin2:

It is odd, because he is backing up every time he sits, even if it's just a little step back.

I saw a few dogs start "boinging" from a stop to a "fast pace". But after watching Advanced and Excellent, not sure if my boy could do that. I was so impressed with the backwards heeling and the pivots. Amazing! Watching the obedience and rally, I truly am impressed with those that do it. I can only imagine how much training you have to do to get a dog to do those tiny little movements. Agility seems like a baby game to that. lol.

On the upside, Miko would never boing nor run. on the downside, Miko can be slow. lol. I guess there's positive and negatives to all that right? I doubt I'll go on, truly. i think he does it for me (and the food). I can't say he's excited about it or anything. The next one is indoors on a mat, something I'm sure he'll like 100x better and will probably walk faster. I'll have to look at the other signs to determine if I think he can do it or not. I'm excited. He obviously can do Novice pretty darn well. :)

And Tami, keep me posted about the agility (I'll keep an eye on TVSSC's website too) and it was great meeting you too. No worries about dinner, maybe another time.

It is odd, because he is backing up every time he sits, even if it's just a little step back.

It's always something he's done, and I believe people here have said Shelties do that at times (not the ones I saw in the rings this weekend though). So, although he's in perfect heel position (or front), when he sits, he backs up and puts him more out of position. I guess depending on how strict the judges can be, would determine how many points off I get (or don't get). Yesterday, he did a lot better, today, back up, back up, sit. UGH! lol.

Isn't he a cutie though? I rarely get to post things like this because he doesn't really do any sports or anything. So I'm glad everyone gets to see my old man in action.
