Missing Sheltie Baltimore, MD - FOUND SAFE!

Yesterday when I was at the vet with Chandler. I saw a lost dog post for a Sheltie from Home Again. It appears to be a Bi Black as primary color is listed as black and secondary listed as white.

She is a female lost on 2/12/11 age 8yrs. 9 mos. wit hypothyroidism. She is also listed at 55lbs. soo this is a large Sheltie.

She was last seen a block away from Summit Park School Baltimore Md. 21209
her microchip# is 4267041933.

Our rescue got this dog last Saturday, dumped $300 into her, and she was returned to her owner Saturday night. She was apparently unmedicated hypothyroid, as her T4 came back 0.3 (on a 1-4 scale). They are taking her to a vet who will actually medicate the thyroid, instead of telling them "she is normal", despite the really obvious symptoms.

She was 47 pounds when we got her. I spent several hours grooming her, as her skin was typical thyroid, actually worse than typical. She was a sweet and awesome dog, and we are happy she is back home.

Her chip was not registered.

I am so glad. i was actually on your site last week or so and tonight it struck me I may have seen a tri or bi black there but i was thinking they would have checked for a chip. guess if it's not registered it doesn't help you. So glad you got her back in better shape. I'll call my vet and tell them they can take it down. Thanks Rachel for all you do.

Will the dog be returned to the owner? An untreated dog just makes me shudder. Thyroid meds are expensive and not everyone can afford them. But it IS a treatable disease.
 
Winter sure seems to be the time for lost Shelties. I was following the lost Sheltie in Canton in Balto city on craigslist. Glad to see this one was found. I sure hope they continue with the proper treatment.
