Ron Paul had a Collie and a litter of Collie puppies when his children were growing up. No stories of abuse there. I'll have to see if I can find a copy of the cute black & white photo.

I knew there was a reason I liked him. :biggrin2:

It's interesting that this story is now beginning to finally hit the national media. I just heard a discussion on MSNBC about "the dog on the roof story" and how it will impact him going forward if he runs against Obama. I think it will certainly turn off animal lovers, and should.

It amazes me the way some people think. I'd like to strap him to the outside of a single engine plane and fly him across country. Bet he wouldn't enjoy the trip.

Stupid, stupid, stupid, yes. Young, no. In 1983 Mitt Romney would have been 36 years old. Certainly old enough to know better.

I'm currently traveling, bringing my father and his dog back to FL to stay for awhile. Two of my diningroom chairs are on the top of my car in a cargo carrier. I didn't want to put chairs on top of my car, I can't imagine how unfeeling you have to be to endanger your pet in such a way. Completely ridiculous.

Since he's on the campaign trail, how about they strap him to the top of his bus and see how much fun he thinks it is!

EDIT: further you have to realize the press loves to crucify politicians and half truths are not beyond them. For instance how far from the folks did they discover the dog had issues? It might have made sense to continue rather than wet the dog down if the remainder is short. The story states 11 hours which sticks with anyone reading it that the poor setter was up there in his filth for half a day. The reality is that it was unlikely that it happened with in the first hour.

Oh and for those wondering I despise him and will not vote for him but that is no reason to stand by and let liars rule the day, as that happens at all of our expense.

Regardless of at what point the "soiling" happened, the dog shouldn't have been riding in a crate strapped to the top of a car. And, if he had to ride on top of the car, why couldn't he be taken down and out, hosed off properly, towel dried and put back.

The whole thing is sickening to me and there is no defending his actions, IMHO. He certainly doesn't seem to deny that it happened.

I haven't heard much of this story since I read the site. David Letterman wondered why it wasn't getting much press. I wonder the same thing. I like the idea of strapping Romney to the top of his bus and letting him see how it feels. What really infuriates me is the original story of how he took the dog through the car wash. No excuse for that.

Who honestly cares?This was so long ago.I don't like what he did nor do I approve but this was so long ago.It is no worse than the guy who puts his dog free in the back of a truck riding down the highway at 70 miles per hour.The press digs out so much crap from the past.This is JMO.They take one story and that is all you hear on the news and play it over and over again. :sleepy:

I care and I think a lot of Americans care or it wouldn't be getting any press. It was a very long time ago, but when he was asked about it recently, he doesn't even apologize or think he did anything wrong. To me that says a lot about his character.

It is similar to people allowing their dog to roam free in the back of a pick-up truck on a highway. I would feel the exact same way if he did that. In a lot of states that is crime. I'm sure crating your dog on the roof of your car would be considered a crime too, but it doesn't happen as often, because most people have more common sense.

I am glad the press digs around people's past. It is their job and I want to know about a person's past, present and future ideas, if they may potentially run the country I live in.
