Moving crate location causes confusion!?!?!?

We haven't moved the crates so a I am not sure what they would do. They do have their little things they do when we let them out though. Mikos gets let out first and he walks right in front of the door of Brie's cage and stops to have a huge stretch then slowly walks out of the bedroom. Brie spins in her crate while she waits, when the door opens she races into Mikos crate to see if he left his treat (like that would happen!), then she hops along the length of my son's desk with her front feet on it to see if there is anything good, gives a bark and races out the bedroom door, does a 4 wheel slide around the corner at the end of the hall and then stops by Mikos to get some lovin'! It never changes!:lol:
 
When I was feeding Lexi in her crate and we moved it she would run to where it used to be and wait. Took a while for her to remember to go to the new one! Of course now we have the doggie condo (two crates stacked) and they both try to cram into the bottom one since it's faster!

Still jump there! When we moved we took the mattress and box spring off and were just left with the frame (as we were loading the truck). The dogs ran into the room and jumped "on" the bed. Needless to say they were very surprised when they just went over the frame and back onto the floor!

I'm kinda relieved that my dog isn't suffering from some grave mental breakdown! Especially since my previous dog had the same problem!

Bela is still (after three days) not too happy about the crate having been moved. She tries to go behind the chair (where the crate used to be) and has to be pointed in the correct direction.

The hubs, by the way, points this out as evidence that Shelties aren't as smart as I constantly tell him they are. <GRRRRRR!>
 
Oh yes, this is familiar. :biggrin2:

During the day, we have Lerwick's crate in the living room, so he can go in it whenever he likes, and we also feed him in it. When we go to bed, we move the crate into our room. When we first trained Lerwick to go to his crate on command, it took several days for him to figure out that at night his crate was in the bedroom. He'd run to the living room spot first, without fail.

Well, we recently moved Lerwick's crate to a different spot in the living room during the day, and come meal times, or whenever we give the "crate!" command, he still goes racing to the old spot. When it isn't there, he pauses, then races off toward the bedroom (where his crate is at night), and it takes a few minutes for him to remember the new spot. This has been going on for several days now, and he still hasn't caught on yet, and he gets 3 meals a day, all of them in the crate, so you'd think he'd have figured it out by now. Shelties do love their routines, and woe betide anybody who messes with them!

And Jaynie, you can tell your hubby that intelligence and stubbornness often go hand-in-hand. :winkgrin:
