My 8 month old puppy wakes us at 5 a.m.

How is it going with Maggie? Have you been successful in pushing back her wake up time to a later hour? Please give us an update!

I am typing this as our puppy Lucy (5 1/2 mo. old) is barking and crying to be let out to start her day. We have the same issue--5am is her preferred time to get up. I know how hard it is to let them bark and cry and I've been a softie about going to get her after 10-15 minutes have gone by.

So...today is a new day. It is now 5:42am and she has been barking and crying steadily since 5am. I'm holding out until 6am but it is hard, hard, hard.

I hope you have had success! I have 15 minutes to go.... Augh.

Some time has passed and progress is being made but it is patchy. I took your suggestions and I don't come straight downstairs right away. I also wait an hour before I feed them, I used to feed Maggie right away. She is gradually letting me sleep a bit later but every once in a while she goes back to her dirty ways!

Many thanks for the puppy admiration, I wish you all could hear her little puppy growl, she sounds like a giggly little girl, which makes her even cuter. I'll post some new pics in the forum.
I love the fuzzy ears!! Sandstorm still has the fuzziest ears, I never trim them, they are adorable. BTW, I agree with the "ignore", if you can!

Maggie's adorable! I see why she gets whatever she wants.

Buffy's alarm clock is now set. On weekdays she gets up around 7 or 7:30 a.m. (If I press snooze too many times I get a Buffy nudge waking me up.) On weekends it's around 8:30 or 9 a.m. When she was little it was a bit earlier, more like 6:30, but she outgrew that pretty quick. By 8 months I believe she was about to hold it until 7 at least.

Our strategy was to take her out the very last thing at night, around 10:30 or 11 p.m. The waking up too early thing was never a huge thing for her though. She pretty much wakes up with the sunrise, but she lazes around in the morning. I bet a blanket will help.

I smile every morning I have to climb out of bed over Toffee because he loves to sleep in, to let the cats in/out. It was real easy training the dog, but the cats? I have been herding cats since I got them 10 years ago, lol

Sometimes he gets up with me out of loyalty, but he is all sleepy and cute with bedhair... we let the cats in/out and go back to bed and cuddle til 11 or so :D

Maggie still barks like crazy but the wake up time is getting later. She doesn't have to go out. She doesn't have to play. She wants us to be with her. That's it, but I refuse to let her up in our bed. I can barely sleep with my husband's snoring, let alone Maggie's. Yes she is getting better, slowly but it is improving!

By the way she is even more ridiculously cute than before. I've never seen such fur on a dog before, some of it is nearly 7 inches long on this puppy!!!
