My best friend... I miss you Alex

Actually, I'm going to differ here. The pain DOES in fact go away! It doesn't mean that you don't miss her sometimes but it doesn't hurt in the same way as it does in the beginning.

Usually, I find it's more a flood of memory that quite takes your breath away! It can overwhelm you a moment's notice. And you gasp, as IF in pain. But I find that once the tears have welled up, I end up smiling at the end, by thinking about the good stuff.

Personally, I would not tattoo myself in memory of my forever pup. Not because I'm against tattoo's but because its really not necessary. Your pup will always hold a place in your heart, and no tattoo is required to remind you.

If I wanted to make a living legacy, I would take the money spent on the tattoo and donate it instead.

I apologize if I sound preachy! I've had my share of death in the last two years (my daughter, quickly followed by my Sheltie). And I've kinda figured out the coping mechanisms.

Best wishes to you.

well ya have to be a Tattoo kinda person to appreciate the thought behind it. i am a tattoo guy(i only have one soo far) and understand the sentiment. (well i wanna do the same thing for my mom and my sheltie) And certainly no need to apologize we all have our different ways of memorializing our loved ones.
And personally I think it would help me cope getting the tats.( i also had my share of death in the last 5 months ... my sheltie quickly followed by my mother)

I hope you are right .... that the pain goes away or at least lessens... i do have the few moments of happy memories but then it goes back to sadness.

I'm so sorry about Alex. We all know what you are going through, and we each have our own way of honouring the memory of our beloved fur babies. Do what you feel is right for you.

Today, it's been 4 months since Honey's passing. To honour her memory, I went for a walk "with her" along her favourite route this morning. It brought me to tears at certain points along the route where memories were the most vivid.

Ah, that just gives me tingles! Thanks for sharing that particular story!

It is hard. In February 2007, we brought home Lassie, our Collie. She was a rescue and was probably 10 or 11. We had her for 18 wonderful months, and when it snows, I remember her so vividly.
