My FEMALE Sheltie Humped My Foot - What the Heck!

I know this is an older thread, but I didn't want to start a new one on the same topic...

Bailey humped my leg last night! :eek2: I was laying in bed and she stood across my legs and just started air humping away. It only lasted for a second. I didn't even have time to react, because she heard a noise down stairs and ran off. This occurred a few mins after I put her in a sit/stay for misbehaving. I'm not sure if it was related to that. Maybe she just had an itch? :lol:

I've seen her do this two other times to her bed. One was about 2 weeks ago and the first time was months ago. Bailey is spayed and will be 2 in May.

I'm debating if I should get a UTI test for her. Despite peeing right before we left the house, Bailey peed in the middle of our indoor agility class. I was surprised and pretty embarrassed. Her peeing has been pretty weird the past few weeks. She'll hold it in for like 6-8 hours and then out of no where will pee back to back within an hour or two.
 
Around that time she humped my foot and my DH's she also peed on the floor a couple of times right in front of us. We had her tested for a UTI and there was nothing wrong with her.

We've had some conflict in our house since the addition of Toby so it was suggested to me that I treat Ginny as the top dog instead of Sadie (Ginny's easily the most dominant and bossy). While the conflict calmed down Ginny felt the need to pee on the floor 2-3 times. This after being out for walks and having no problem holding it all day while we were at work. I scolded her the last time she was caught and we haven't had the problem since. In the house anyway. She seems to have poop accidents when she gets over excited. This has happened twice lately.

I know Bailey's a bit of a bossy brat like Ginny, could it just be behavioral? Maybe she's daring to challenge you. :wink2:
 
I think that humping can mean several things. Obviously, it could be a dominance thing...but I can tell you that when Bentley humps it's rarely for that reason.

He will often do it after licking himself at night before he goes to bed. I guess he gets himself all worked up? :rolleyes2:

Do you know if Bailey was licking herself before that?

I don't know if humping is a sign of a UTI, but the weird peeing habits sound a bit odd.
 
I can't recall if she was licking herself right before or not, but I'll see if she does that if she ever air humps again.

I thought her recent peeing habits was strange. She'll hold it in for hours and not because she's forced to do or anything. She just doesn't ask to go out and when I do let her out, she doesn't always go. Then some days, she'll pee back to back in a short amount of time. I've only noticed this on weekends. Idk what she does on weekdays when she is home with my parents. They say she asks to go out a lot, but they just let her out in the yard. Since they don't go out with her, they don't know if she actually goes or not.

I think humping can be a sign of a UTI. If it's burning them or itchy.
 
Mine only hump as a play behaviour and not that often - Deska does it to anyone in the family when he is in a really silly mood. Tully will sometimes try it on the cat if Deska tries it on her.

Dogs are all into things that feel good - I blame us owners though. We are forever rewarding them so I guess sometimes they just decide to reward themselves :rolleyes2:
 
I brought a urine sample to the vet this week. Her sample came back normal, so Bailey's humping and bizarre potty behavior is not related to a UTI.
