My puppy hates me :(

I agree with everyone, an 11 week old Sheltie biting is not really attacking per se.

Ariel was annoyingly bitey and nippy. Every single time she bit, she was told, "NO BITE," and we immediately walked away out of the room, left her alone, and ignored her. She got the message, but it took a couple of weeks.

Now, if her teeth accidently touch our hands she gets a "Uh Oh" look on her face. She KNOWS.

I've never owned a triggerfish, but I've always secretly wanted one! Clown triggerfish are my favorite.

But, yeah. Watch out for the nipping of your feet if that hasn't started yet. Also, starting and stopping suddenly in front of you. I get so sick of getting herded sometimes. :rolleyes2:

I used a spray bottle, and in a week or so all of the nipping stopped. Every time he would bite me I'd squirt him with water and say "STOP!". I don't like using the water bottle though, because I think its mean. It was kind of mean for him to make me bleed though.
 
We used the startle technique with Earnhardt.We took an old can,put coins in it,taped the end,and kept it handy.He was a digger,ankle biter,agressive chewer,so it got used alot.And it worked.Still to this day,the can is up in the cabinet,and when he sees it..he scatters quickly.

If only ya'll could see the video Brian took of Earnhardt chasing me and ankle biting me one day,I was running around his kennel away from him.Honestly it was a video that belonged on Funniest Home videos. He was about 3-4 months old.

Sorry for the off-topic, but I had to answer you. If you get a triggerfish, you'd better not spend money for nice coral or other fish in the same tank. They'll get eaten. Those triggerfish are very aggressive and can get scary big. I had a large Humu humu nuku nuku a'pua that bit the bejeebers out a a pencil a friend held down in the tank. Nasty fish! :eek2:

I think I"ll get a can ready too. Sounds like a good idea and it would be easier now with 2 Shelties.

I wish I could see that video. Running from a 3-4 month old Sheltie sounds so funny. LOL Was he growling as he was chasing you?
 
It was an attack. From completely cuddly to growling, struggling and biting the heck out of me. He has done the cute puppy nibble thing and his demeanor is completely different.

I am trying to bribe him with treats and just positive reinforcement. It is so hard to have a Sheltie that runs from me when I have done nothing to make him sad. All my other boys love me!

I think that he was not socialized at all. The breeder had him isolated outside in the yard. He was/very hard to catch. He is getting so much more relaxed with everyone ELSE in the family except me.

We make a special point to give all pups one on one attention.

Sometimes just the oddest things will make a puppy nervous and then they struggle and fight to get down.

Examples: perfume, jewelry, eye glasses, hair barrettes, change in hairstyle (up vs down), voice pitch, amount of light, indoors vs outdoors.

I've found that the pups do a cower and cover if I go check them when I'm wearing perfume or earrings. They are used to mommy being pretty bland, so if I gussy up they just don't like the change. I can also take them from sleepy to WILDLY ROWDY in seconds by talking to them in a high pitched baby talk voice. The grown dogs interact with us differently outside than in...too much going on in the sky and in the road and too much room for speed. Figgy just won't quit jumping up and punching me in the butt when we are outside AND I HATE IT but all I can do is whirl and give him the "off" command (I don't always hear or see him coming though, he gets lots of tags in)

If he does bite or scratch, give a throaty "aaargh" sort of like a cough to a clearing the throat sort of Harrumph sound. Praise the good behavior, and give the correction "cough" on the bad behavior.
