My puppy loves me...

Hello everyone, I am new to the Sheltie forum, So glad I joined! I have a puppy that is 4 months old "Lyla" she is such a mommas girl, For some reason she does not like my husband! She barks at him all the time! Does anyone else have a sheltie that does this?:confused2: If he gets anywhere close to me she will go crazy barking too!:confused2:
 
Welcome to the forum !! Your pup sounds like many other's on the forum, so you are not alone. I haven't had this happen personally but I believe Lyla is so young that it just might be a stage. Make sure Hubby is feeding treats and giving love too. Would love to see pictures of her.
 
Not sure what your routine is like, but is it possible to get your husband more involved? If he doesn't do these things, you may want to have him start:
- feed her
- train her (working with her really creates a bond!)
- play with her (find her favorite toy, have him get on the ground, etc.)
- walk her
- take her out

I agree with Corbinam. At first have your husband play with her then you can play together, and take turns feeding her (you feed one day hubby feeds for two days or every other day) to let her know that y'all are Mommy AND Daddy (not just Mommy and not just Daddy).

Welcome from New Zealand.

My sheltie is sort of opposite, but not that extreme, he prefers the husband to me, but lately, since I have been "buttering him up" more, he is now following me more and becoming more of a companion. I don't know why this happens, some dogs like both the same, then there are others that definitely have their own "pets"

They all have their own personality for sure.

I agree with this. My 9 yr old hates males... I honestly think it's because of her birth-8 weeks, but I doubt she could remember that much. Needless to say, every time a man comes into my home or she sees one while pottying she barks in fear (and protection). The thing we use is when one of our friends come over we give them a stick of puparoni to kind of lure her to him and to make her stop barking. By the end of the evening she's trying to get the person to rub her with their feet (she has a foot fetish.. silly doggy) That might also be a suggestion if it's not just your husband that she does it to. Once my 9 yr old is used to that male she's perfectly fine with them.
 
Beau used to be afraid of men when I first brought him home. I made it a point to go up to my male neighbors when I walked him and I asked them to pet him. Now, he's an equal opportunity wet nose, wiggly butt lover to both male and female humans. Though he's still more flirty with the females.:biggrin2:
