Nadac #8

so we had a Nadac agility trial this past weekend- our first trial this year.
our lack of recent practice was evident in that both brown dogs went a little crazy at finally being able to do agility.
but actually, Cran's Jumpers on Friday was not bad- he only ran around one jump and my friend said I should have gone in closer to help him with that one. I was happy with that run even if it wasn't a Q.
Jumpers on Sat- another story- he was in barking mode and ran around more jumps and just didn't seem to be on. the positive note for this run is he did take the last 3 straight line jumps- he went on and didn't turn back to me which has been an issue for him.
Saturday Tunnelers and Weavers- we had some issues with those as well- Cran didn't go into some of the tunnels when he was right there and Dixie- well, she almost took the wrong tunnel but I was able to call her off- so they both ended up over time.
Cran had a hard time from the hoop to the 12 poles and Dixie - she likes those tunnels....
Sunday Tunnelers went much better though I did mess Cran up on the second to last tunnel so his time was off. Weavers again had some issues.

Dixie- she was in Touch n Go (Tunnel/Aframe issue) and Regular (Tunnel/Aframe issue again) on Friday
Saturday Tunnelers and Weavers- we had some issues with those as well.
Sunday Tunnelers- she was smoother than Cran so she actually beat his time and got first.
Weavers- she ran around one of the hoops straight to the tunnel- I tried to call her back but it was too late and then when she came out of the tunnel and towards me- I almost tripped on her....
and then she had another Touch n Go run and that tunnel/Aframe got her again.....

Great job for puppies, they adjust their speed to yours!
I am wondering if one needs to do a lot of distance work for this type of courses.
Love those tunnelers, we did one similar snooker in CPE and it was very hard!
What is the distance between tunnels in that row that you have recalled Dixie? Since then I have learned a cue to let my dog know if I need them to be tight and turn from the tunnel back to me. I would like to try it with a row of tunnels like you had. Hmm, must meet a new challenge:biggrin2:

Nadac courses are very much distance handling oriented. obstacles are farther apart than in Akc so you get a workout running with your dogs.....
I have no idea what the spacing between the tunnels was- all I know is that is the favorite class for the puppers:yes:

Looking good!

I fancy the tunnel course as well, though I could see myself getting very confused. It was sneaky putting the a frame next to the tunnel at the start of the regular course. I bet that gave a few handlers nightmares!

Great to watch and such fast dogs:pop

Does it matter to Cran what side of the weaves you are on? The first one went well and you were on the right but the other two you were on the left. When I saw him he was FLYING through the weaves and I think you were always on the right.

Sca says hi, want my frisbee?

we do love the tunnels- Nadac doesn't give out course maps so you walk the course a lot to attempt to make sure that you know where to go. and even if you do, many times the dog makes up its own course:winkgrin:

the tunnel/Aframe is another Nadac thing- lots of courses with obstacle discriminations.....
Dixie is a big tunnel suck - except when we were in Huntsville, then the tunnels were evil- and almost always takes the tunnel instead of the contact obstacle:rolleyes2:

Cran and Dix are usually both pretty good about either side of the weaves but with the weather being so crappy, we haven't gotten much practice in and I think it's showing. they both recently have had some weave issues.
I have discovered that if they have an entry issue then I might as well switch to the right side- they usually can complete them then.
in AKC, you only get three attempts and then the judge will tell you to move on so if they don't get it the first time, I try to make sure that they get it on the second try.
they don't make you move on in Nadac, but you lose time when you repeat the weaves.

as long as I am in front, Cran will keep going and the faster that I can go, the faster he goes. I've actually been a little disappointed since I know he can do better and usually does......

Yay for getting back out there after a bit of a break! I'm worried. We've done a lot less this winter as well.

But your guys look like they adjusted fairly well :)

yeah- by the third day, they seemed to remember what to do:winkgrin:
if it's not freezing cold here (for us), then it's raining. it is supposed to be nice this weekend so maybe we can get something started......:fl
