Natural Balance Merges with Del Monte...not so good?

Thank you all so much for the suggestions I am looking into all of them and considering each one, I wish feeding our dogs wasn't so hard!

I've also heard good things about Earthborn. I like the Petcurean products too...Now makes a grain free and several of their Go/Now varieties are limited ingredients single-source protein.

I bought a small bag of Earthborn just to see if my Wesite would like the flavor and he seems to like it I just hope there's not anything in it to upset his stomach. That's the only advantage to the limited ingredients is has less in it to upset his sensitive system.

I don't think should create panick here.

From what I understand Natural Balance will continue to operate under its current distribution channel.

All the merger does is at a corporate level....leveraging finances and corporate resources, for now.

It does not change the change the food you are currently feeding. Chill!

That's exactly what I was thinking when I asked my original question. Having been through several mergers in my business life, I know that products do not have to change (but admittedly, they can). The only thing that has been said so far that does give me pause is the suggestion that Del Monte outsources to China. Assuming that Natural Balance does not, I would also be concerned too. Otherwise, I would agree with you. It's too soon to panic.

Well, if Del Monte outsources to China and that's an issue for anyone, then forget your dog food.....now you will have to look at just about any grocery store canned product that you buy. This would include people food.

Personally, I feel like the anti-china thing has gone too far. Yes, there have been issues with food from China. But just 1 year ago, there were issues with food for the US plants.

If the trends continue, we will all be back to eating our own home grown vegetables and keeping a cow for milk and slaughter every year.

I would comment that it doesn't appear that anyone in this thread is panicking. Only that they are expressing a very valid concern, and wanting to give others the information to help them make a decision.

It is true that no formula changes have been announced, and it's possible that none will take place. However, similar mergers have shown that these are possibilities, and some owners are not willing to take that risk. Voicing that concern is certainly not panic, I would even say that it is very calculated and forward-thinking to consider all aspects of this change.

I didn't suggest that anyone was panicking, but simply that they should not.

I am not panicking but my dog has had HGE twice in his life and almost died both times. The first time he lost so much blood that he almost need a blood transfusion. When I switched him to the L.I.D. it really made a HUGE difference and he's had good solid stools, eats like a champ and no other issues. Natural Balance posted this on their Facebook page

Good afternoon, we are listening to you and would like to address some of the comments you have shared. Both Natural Balance and Del Monte are committed to providing the high quality ingredients and formulas you trust and will continue to uphold the Natural Balance philosophy of quality, ingredients and formulations. Natural Balance dry formulas, canned formulas, treats, rolls, and pouches will continue to be manufactured in the United States. Our newly introduced Delectable Delights Stews will continue to be made in Thailand by a state-of-the-art US FDA approved plant. We are also committed to continuing our robust "Buy with Confidence" program and its thorough testing process because your pet is our first priority. You may continue to contact the Natural Balance Customer Care team with questions and concerns at 800-829-4493 or [email protected].

They are already out sourcing to Thailand for one of their products and it's just a matter of time before they do that with the rest. I do agree that the food will not change right now, but I want to find a better alternative because I know it's just a matter of time before their quality suffers. I'm not tryING to cause panic I am trying to give other ppl who feed this brand a chance to know what is going on and to make an informed decision that is best for them. Some ppl may continue to feed NB to their dogs, but I choose to look for something that I feel better about giving my dog.

I have several thoughts prompted by the progression of this thread:

(1.) My initial question was designed to determine exactly what the initial poster was concerned about regarding the merger/buyout of the Natural Balance assets. The initial inclusion of "...not so good?" suggested that the poster had concerns that this was a bad move. After doing a cursory search, I found no specific info that corroborated that assumption. Thus my question.

(2.) I did in fact use "panic" in my comments, however, just as BarbV indicated, I did not suggest that anyone was in fact panicking, only that I do not see a need for panic as of yet.

(3.) I would concede that there have indeed been food recall issues in the US as well as those in China (and many other locations around the world). However, having retired from over 4+ decades of employment in industries that have competed with and/or done business with Chinese companies, I do have concerns with the manner in which some of those companies do business (particularly where the products are consumed by and/or applied to the body). Does that mean that I will not do business with companies with ties to China? Absolutely not. What it does mean is that given the choice, I may choose not to select a product from China. In cases where I have no choice, I simply need to arm myself with the proper information before choosing to (or not to) use that product.
