Needing opinions

Hello! I'm hoping someone may be able to give me some info. My husband and I have 3 sons. Ages 2, 5 and 8. We have a 14 year old cat and a 12 year old Jack russle terrier. We have been wanting to add a member to our family and wanting to get something a little bigger and a female. A friend called me and she has sheltie husky mix puppies. They are adorable! I was just wondering if anyone knows how a husky mix does as far as training and with kids and if this would be a good addition to our family? Any opinions are greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Although I strongly support adopting mixed breed dogs, do be aware that you never know how the combination is going to end up -- sometimes they're more like one breed or another, and sometimes they're completely different. I have no personal experience with the mix you're thinking about, I would recommend reading up on both breeds.

My cousin has a husky- very stubborn, not food motivated, likes to run......
As said, you don't know what traits the puppies will have but they will be cute.....

Honestly, without knowing what the dog parents are like or the personality of the dog, or how well the 'breeder' is raising and socialising the puppies (assume not a lot), then it's hard to know. Me, I wouldn't recommend adding in a Husky with 2 children under 8 and a cat. Huskys do carry risks, they have a high prey drive and they should not, never, be left around small children and small animals unsupervised.

I guess it depends if you have the time to train and supervise the puppy/dog with so much else on your hands. Sorry it's probably not what you want to hear, but better to be aware.

There are two so different breeds and their minds are so different - personally I would absolutely not dare

But absolutely beautiful, they must be

I can confirm Huskies are escape artist. My son had a Beagle/Husky. Double escape artist.
Blue eye Beagle. He even tore out of a brand new kennel that was heavy duty where he was
kept on nice days. One day my son forgot to lock a door. Opened the door and got out.

Have to add to the cautions - my neighbor's Husky would climb the 8 foot fence in the back when she wanted to come visit our first Sheltie Skye. That was kinda funny until her attention was caught by our pet rabbit, whom she attacked and tried to kill!!! They are very nice dogs but they do have a very high prey drive and they are definitely escape artists. They are a breed meant to work ALL DAY pulling sleds.

I'm trying to imagine a Husky - Sheltie cross.... fuzzy, for sure!
