Nellie's Run-Thru

A little late, but Nellie had an awesome time at her run-thru on July 1. She did the teeter with no fear, and she had great focus for most ofthe time. Strangely, she had a tunnel fear...I don't know what was up with that, but once I put her in a sit-stay at the end of the tunnel, and called through the other end, she did it, and had no fear.

Here's the link to the video, please post comments here, we're still working out some things with the YouTube channel. :biggrin2:

Nellie looked great! And I was very happy to see her teeter--nice job!

I sort of forget...but was she getting on the teeter, and then bailing (in the past)? I ask because Lexi went through a similar phase with the teeter. I finally fixed it by dropping the teeter really low, and baiting the end. If she got on, then dropped off, it was too high so I lowered it more. If she got on, and stood there, or turned around, I ignored her (didn't help her at all). Eventually, she learned to "find" the tipping point on her own, and got more comfortable with it. We slowly moved the teeter up to regulation height, and she's had no trouble ever since!

When you practice with Nellie, do you ever stop and give her a treat randomly? Is she particularly food motivated? My recommendation would be to stop and feed her just at random for staying with you. And then, if she does run away, don't feed her when she comes back (because that's essentially rewarding the fact that she left), but ask her to do an obstacle (not an obstacle of her choosing---you choose!) and then reward her.

But she really did great! And it looks like she is really enjoying herself.

Yes, I try and do random treating. I've got to remember to do it more though.

Nellie's been doing better on the teeter. At home, she usually stays on unless my dad or someone is outside the fence. (my mom doesn't distract her too much, strangely) At indoor practices, she sometimes jumps off neart the vertex or when it starts to drop. I would lower our home teeter, but the metal screws keeping the metal bar in place has rusted. :(
Thank you for all your compliments!

Stuff to remember! :biggrin2:
RUN! (I think that nellie was distracted is because I wasnt running fast enough. Yes, she usually runs faster then that
