New AKC classes,

Did you see all the new classes you can enter next June, or July? Pre everything, and no group exercises and half height jumps! Sounds like they' re borrowing some of the best of UKC practices!

Not sure if I want all those "optional" titles, but sure appreciate the chance to play!

I hadn't heard of the new classes. I went to the AKC website and the rule book they have up is the green cover and the non regular classes where the Beginners novice, grad novice and grad open. Date was Aug 2011.

Is there a new rule book somewhere or dO you have the link that shows the new classes

I like the pre classes but with the non regular classes too our club will have to choose the PRe classes or non regular classes for our trials. I suggested that we will rotate, spring show - pre classes, fall show, non regular and wild card...

This weekend I will see the new advanced teamwork class! I want to train Bobby to do those Crufts (international) exercises!

Our club offers Beginner Novice, but that is the only non-regular class we deal with. I can't imagine offering all these at a trial, the OTCH points would tank!

We offered all the non-regular Rally classes once. Note, I said "once". Never again.

The club hosting the trials this weekend are offering all the reg and non regular obed classes on sat, making a real long day. On Sunday only regular classes. I think they will have four rings (one for rally)

I thought it makes good sense to have Sunday short and sweet, get the judges headed home in the afternoon, and club members home for dinner.

New AKC classes

Did anyone notice that these new classes are based on a total score of 140 and not the normal 200?

Quoting:

Section 4. Pre-Novice Exercises and Scores. The exercises, maximum scores
and order of judging in the Pre-Novice classes are:

1. Heel on Leash 25 points
2. Figure Eight on Leash 15 points
3. Stand for Examination (off leash) 25 points
4. Heel Free (off leash) 25 points
5. Recall 25 points
6. Stay – Sit or Down 25 points

Maximum Total Score 140 points

***Qualifying Score: In the Pre-Novice Classes, a qualifying score means that the dog has earned more than 50 percent of the points for each exercise with a total score of at least 120 points.

The figure 8 will kill many teams from qualifying, there are only 15 points! Figure no sits (3 points each) and tight leash or out of heel position more than once and one has NQ'd.

Wow, and heel free and off leash stand?

The Beginner Novice class is much better for first timers, everything but recall is on leash!
