Hello, so I have a 9 month old Sheltie my boyfriend and I bought from a dog store when he was 2 months old. He is the first Sheltie of the family, although we do have other dogs that reside with us. At home we have a 12 year old Old English Sheepdog and her daughter that is 6. Then my baby a long hair Chihuahua who is 3. My boyfriend's Sheltie is 9 months old and at a rebellious teenage stage. In two months we will be moving out for college and will be taking both my Chihuahua and his Sheltie. Let me just say that Buddha, the sheltie is on the bigger side for a sheltie, about 16 inch in height. And he has sooo much energy, jumps up at you non-stop. Right now where we live, we have a huge backyard, but we will be moving into a small apartment with possibly no backyard. So I'm hoping this forum will help us to learn all the tricks to tame our beast into an indoor and obedient dog : )

Hi from Maryland. We have three Shelties (and three that have already crossed over the Rainbow Bridge). I hate to rain on your parade, but a 9 month old Sheltie (or any puppy for that matter) needs a lot of exercise and mental stimulation or they can become anxious and sometimes destructive. Are you sure you want to take him with you to college? If so, please be prepared to walk him everyday for at least 45 minutes. Ours go nuts if we skip even one walk and they are not puppies any longer. Good luck with your move, school and raising your pup.

Yes I have quickly come to find out what an energetic breed shelties are!! The complete opposite of my laid back, put me in your bag, Chihuahua haha I'm confident that we can meet Buddha's needs even when we move away for college. We already go on regular walks for over an hour and ahalf on most days. I'm actually a bit excited because currently Buddha lives outside with 2 other big dogs, and he hasn't had the training I would have liked indoors. I feel as though we will be starting from scratch when we move inside our apartment, which I have confirmed has no back yard. But on the bright side, we will spend a lot more time interacting together, and I can rid him of some bad habits he has developed living outside with bigger dogs. I just posted some photos in the fuzzy section or whatever it's called! Maybe yall would like to take a peak : )
