Hi - We have recently got our first sheltie puppy and finding this forum has been a 'godsend'. I have been able to find answers for so many of our initial questiions and it is so good to see that it is not only me that has some of these queries. Our puppy is 4 months old and we are so pleased with him. I had not heard of the taping of ears and had assumed that what you got was what you got. However, my pup has one ear pricked and one ear tipped at the moment. Am I right is saying that teething has an influence on ears. We have had GSD's in the past and did find that as their teeth changed this influenced the ear carriage. I look forward to reading the forum and learning more about this very beautiful breed.

Welcome to Sheltie Nation! We're so glad you "came over to the Sheltie side!" :biggrin2:

Ah, the mysteries of ears -- why do they do what they do? Truth is, no one knows for sure. I have Layla the prick-eared girl -- didn't tape. I have her cousin Bitsy Boodle -- perfect ears, didn't tape. I have a rescue, Annie Laurie -- tipped ears, no tape. And the Big Boy, Beckon, brother to Layla -- taped, perfect ears. Go figger!

Unless you're showing or unless perfect ears matter to you, I say let 'em be. It's a hassle. We taped the boy's because he was a show prospect. The rest we let be.

hiya and welcome.
we love pics,
Suzi has perfectly tipped ears, all natural, and Kayla's ears are up.

Welcome!

I've always glued my guy's ears. I use hair extension glue from the local beauty store. I once ordered some glue from a sheltie website and sure enough they sent me the same stuff they sell in the store down the street from me. So if you decide to glue the ears down, you can do it easily and cheaply

Our rescue Bentley has ears like a satellite dish, but we love him just the same. Got him too late to glue or tape.

Our beloved Sassafras defied all our means to get her ears to tip so we finally gave up. She grew up to be a beautiful little gal of 12 lbs.

We have another rescue now that has one tipped ear and one that stands straight up. Love the look!

I say accept them as they come unless you're going to show him.

awww, he sounds precious!
Ears are a great discussion point, haahahah
Welcome to Sheltie Nation's Forums
I have the best of both worlds, one tipped one straight,
