New PUPPY/grooming

Congrats on your new puppy.

Your puppy won't have a long time for quite a while, so plenty of time to invest in brushes for long coat dogs. The brushes you use for your medium coated mix will do fine for now.

The most important thing though is to get your pup used to grooming. So regular sessions of gentle brushing that is fun for the pup. Also important, get him/her used to holding its paws (for nail clipping and fur clipping) and lifting it's tail to brush the butt (in a few months you'll want to trim a poop chute).

One other thing that I've learnt recently while taking Piper to puppy class is to get your pup used to laying on its side (helps for brushing) and helps the puppy learn your the leader. Just have the puppy lay on their side with their back to you and rub their belly or face etc so it's a pleasant experience for them. For doing their nails get them used to laying on their back (sit on floor or couch with your legs extended) and place them on their back between your legs and sandwich them between the legs. Makes it really easy to do the nails.
