New puppy has coccidia

Welcoming both you and Emmy to the forum.

Great pictures. Thanks for posting them. What a very cute puppy. She is in my prayers for restored health.

ps I would change vets if you are not comfortable where you are currently going.

pps This is random, but our daughter's nickname is "Emmy".(spelled the same way)! I'll have to show her the pictures of your puppy.

Thank you everyone! She is just the best little pup I could ask for! :biggrin2:

She seems to be super happy and healthy, merrily zooming all over my room!

Mally's Mom, that's so cool!

Congrats on the new pup!!
I got Miko when he was 11 weeks old and he came to me with coccidia (if you search coccidia in these forums, you’ll likely find about 100 posts of mine about it). However, unlike your pup, Miko had chronic diarrhea. It was a nightmare to get him over it. It took about a year of struggling … one step forward, two steps back… before he could handle any food other than boiled chicken & rice. At about 17months old, we switched directly from chicken & rice to raw food and it’s been smooth sailing ever since. In fact, he has guts of steal now. He eats all kinds of veggies, fruits and meats… no problem!! (knock on wood)
Best of luck with your little puppy… I hope she’s feeling better very soon!!

Sca had it also. He was a little dehydrated from it so they gave him some fluids, probiotics and something else (can't remember). A day later he was on a tear  Spitfire did not but was 6 months old when I got him. She will be fine though. As to the vet I am thinking like a person doc you need confidence. Though if you are concerned about being a paranoid mom I would give it some time to set in. Personally I am likely a not enough worry person but that is atypical.

Either way give her pets from us.

PS Spitfire was saying how he was bigger  but I explained it would not last as she was a puppy and he is full size.

Shelby had it too, along with Giardia and worms. Poor thing really had quite the grumbly tummy. She also had diarrhea and very foul smelly poo.

After meds she was fine. Our vet told us all 3 of these are very common in puppies and was nothing to worry about.

I did notify our breeder so she could treat the other dogs. When we picked Shelby up she did tell us that the dogs had loose stools and because there is no way of knowing which dogs were affected her vet was treating all the dogs with antibiotics already. She also had a letter for our vet so he knew what Shelby was being treated for.

Your girl is adorable!

Welcome to the forum MissieLynn and congratulations on your new puppy! She is darling...with a very sweet face. :smile2:
