Oh no Ann! Last thing you want with a senior dog is diarrhea! Good idea to skip the metrodiazinole at least see if it works without it. A few years ago the dogs had a bout of diarrhea one after the other…first Finnie (as a pup) then Riley and then Piper! It was all a fluke and I used the slippery elm and it worked great…that and a low fat easily digestible diet. But so frustrating…I feel your pain!

Oh no! I know it doesn't take much with an older pup to really upset their overall health. Diarrhea is not just messy but can make them feel just awful.
maybe I need to get some slippery elm just in case

(OK..so the amazon reviews of slippery elm are.....different. apparently a lot of women take it for vaginal dryness. Now I wonder if there is a corresponding effect on men? or male dogs?)

I don't know about the male vs. female dogs, but my holistic vet recommends it highly for both. She specifically suggests the Animal Essentials drops which I get on Amazon. It works really well. I use it in conjunction with ProPectalin chewable pills (from Chewy or Amazon) which is a combination of targeted probiotics and kaolin and is a miracle diarrhea remedy for routine cases. Caro recommended it years ago and I've been using it ever since. ProPectalin also comes in a syringe dose.

here’s a great video put out by Dr.Karen Becker regarding diarrhea/diet when they have it and slippery elm.
What I’ve read about slippery elm is that it coats the GI tract and can help with both diarrhea and constipation as well as an upset stomach (how it works depends on when you give it, either with food or without.) I’m guessing because of this ‘lubrication’ it helps with other things as well lol.
