New Sheltie in St. Louis MO

New member at this site. My tri-factored sable/white sheltie Chase died in May of cancer at the young age of 8 years 4 months. I was devastated, as were my wife and three boys. I got him from a BYB in March of 2004 at 8 weeks of age (before I knew any better). He had numerous problems throughout his life... with luxating patella (both sides), low thyroid, allergies, and neurotic behavior... but even with all that he was still the best sheltie I've ever owned. We didn't wait long to get a replacement, I picked up Jake (another tri-factored S/W male) three weeks ago at 11 weeks old. He is perfect (eye goop issue notwithstanding)! His temperament is warm and he is a stunning looking dog (IMO). I've been taking weekly measurements, and at 14 weeks he is just over 12 inches and 11 pounds. We are getting another sheltie in early August (tri-colored) female and I know Jake will be thrilled (he loves all dogs)!
 
Hello and welcome! I'm from Nova Scotia, Canada and have 2 sable litter mates - Brandi & Brady who are 3 yrs and 4 mos old. We love to see pictures ... hope you can post some of your new little man soon!

I am sorry to heard of the loss of your first Sheltie.

Sorry to hear about the lost of your beloved Chase. The first Sheltie I ever had was from a backyard breeder, too (my parents also didn't know any better), and like your Chase, she suffered from all sorts of health problems her entire life, but she was the sweetest dog imaginable, and though she's been gone 12 years now, she still holds a very special place in my heart, and is solely responsible for my enduring love affair with the Sheltie breed.

So glad to know you've opened your heart and home to another wonderful Sheltie, and excited to learn you've got another one on the way! Like the others have said, I'm looking forward to pics of your pups. Well, I'd say my wife is the brave one. She's the one at home all day with 3 kids and soon to be two young puppies. We always wanted two Shelties (I grew up with them from birth, 2 or 3 at a time my whole life through high school) but Chase never warmed up to other dogs and by the time we really felt like getting one... I thought it wouldn't be fair to him. He enjoyed being the only dog... I think he thought he was human. My wife suggested getting the puppy stage all over with this summer as opposed to doing it two summers in a row. The following link has a couple pictures of recently departed Chase and my new Jake.

Welcome to Sheltie Nation -- we're so glad to have you and Jake! CHase would be proud that you opened your heart and home to a little one -- soon to be two! We did the same thing -- two puppies. Bits and Layla are cousins a month apart. Now we have four -- so watch out!! :wink2:
