New Sheltie Owner

For food many of us are fans of Fromm. You will go crazy trying to pick the best course of action. My vet just sent us all an email saying she has been studying the no grain food controversy and at first she thought no grain was ok. Now she has landed firmly on the side of grain free is not the way to go. Said she has seen three cases recently of heart issues that she directly attributes to feeding grain free. For whatever it's worth....good luck.
 
Food is a super crazy subject and quite personal. Do a search here and read, read, read. We, too, are Fromm fans. Brodie was on their puppy formula and both my guys are now on their Gold Adult.

I am a firm believer in crate training and both my guys (Brodie is a sheltie and Kooper is a small standard doxie) sleep in their own 30" crate every night. My doxie liked a plastic crate when little but Brodie HATED plastic so we switched him into a small wire crate. You can get big one with a separator but I have a few sizes in the house already from travel and camping.

We do a tiny treat for potty. Potty is UBER important.... Start with a small space in your home, they don't like to potty where they eat/sleep so start small, add on space as the puppy grows. Their bladders are TINY right now and they have NO control of them. So might be every hour you are taking them out during the day, LOTS of praise for potty. The crate is a good training source or a small pen. No time outside of that unless they pee or you will have an accident. If they start to play and run around, odds are they are going to have to pee, so if you don't want an accident, take out to pee a few minutes into playtime and then once pee is done, resume play. Don't give free reign access to the house. Some keep on a leash so they are with you all the time. Don't expect miracles until they are a year old. Might come sooner, but they do go through times of backsliding in their training.

Please go to the Puppies section of the Forums, there are extensive existing threads on food, training, crating etc. My youngest is not quite 6 months old so I've just been through all of this. There WILL be potty accidents, we were so careful to get her out at least every hour but if they get excited or whatever, they will suddenly pee. They do not have physical control completely of their bladder until about 6 months of age. So cover up any carpet or rug you want to keep safe! And limit the area the puppy has - to one room where you can watch him/her.

Thanks, but I need to be more clear. How can I upload directly from my computer? I don't find any option to do this.

To upload directly from your computer, you have to become a Premium member. (Well worth it!) Then when you post you will see a blue tab at bottom right that says "upload a file". Otherwise, if you store your photos in any photo sharing site like Shutterfly, Photobucket, etc. you just include the link in your post. Hope this helps, I'm not a techno genius myself, LOL.
