Saluting their perseverance, & graceful acceptance

Hello, and welcome. I have a blind 21 year old mixed (she reacts to light but, essentially lost her sight/hearing years ago), and I have a Sheltie pup who was born totally blind. It's interesting, and often surprising, to watch an older dog adapt. They seem to take it so 'in stride'. Sometimes (to their obvious chagrin) their efforts can be pretty amusing too.

As long as they both enjoy eating, affection, and I get the occasional 'kisses for daddy' -- 's all good!

Best wishes Simba.

(My eleventh post begs the question; find it amusing that "Sheltie/sheltie" gets a spelling squiggle -- considering the forum? )

OH,what an oldie you have.I'm afraid Simba has never adapted being blind,if it's to do with the strokes he's had in the past i don't know.I have never changed any furniture around but he gets himself into a right state,he goes bashing into doors, furniture, and i'm surprised he hasn't knocked himself out.Sometimes i think am i being cruel keeping him going,i really don't know,it worries me so much. His teeth are rotten, his legs are weak and he needs carrying up and down the stairs

Gone's a long time. I think I understand a bit of what you're going thru. Want to hang on forever but, don't want them to suffer for one second. My old girl needs carried too. She spends most of her time napping so, there's eight stations set up to give her variety. Instead of chocolates, there's vita-treats on her pillows. She won't take them out of my hand but, 'found' food disappears. Just when I think, "Maybe tomorrow...", she rallies, and we're watching another episode of Swamp People, and I'm counting my blessings.

You care. You'll know. You, & Simba, will do just fine. Peace
