She seems quite certain you are unfair.
Now I do not know what she does as she is not allowed

Now I'm lucky if I say "Minnie no" then she stops and I can give her praise immediately and maybe a treat.

Mandy is constantly after Benji the cat, I tell her 'nice', 'gentle', but if kitten makes noises like he's hurt, o tell Mandy 'no!'. Lol I just get barking back.

A lil diva in the making. Savannah has talked back since puppyhood to voice her objections to what I have asked of her. Be FIRM, you have a budding independent wanna be dictator testing the limits.

Oh yes, I sure do. Lol. Even when I try to put her on her back for a belly rub, nope, no way.

Puppy's don't really understand 'no' it's a command/word you need to teach - just like sit, drop, stay. She's worked out 'no' means something different to what you intended. Best to drop the no word until she's a bit older and try something else - like uh-uh. Also may help if you clap your hands when you say it to break her concentration on what you want her to leave.

I rarely use 'no' with my dogs - it's such a short word and so imprecise that I think it's easily ignored. I prefer to use 'leave it', uh-uh or a command that fits the situation (like get down or outside or come).

Ah... Yes, she does know leave it... So smart. Hmm I guess it's puppy training owner... She's saying, 'I don't understand '.

I had forgotten that it was your cat I had seen earlier with your puppy.

I understand why Mandy answer you back- because she talks after all with the cat

Can see that the cat has fine opportunities to get away from Mandy if it did not want contact.

I think they'll figure it out eventually and become the best of friends

I would probably try to entice Mandy away from the cat
-or go in between the cat and Mandy facing Mandy and "squeeze" her back with your body - if you think it is too much.

I use the short, sharp "Aaaaaaaah!" sound (short a as in cat). Much more effective than no.

I've resorted to barking back at Riley occasionally. He always puts his ears down and tries to come and rub up against me with his tail wagging as if to say "okay, you can be the boss - I'm a nice boy! Really! See what a good dog I can be?". I get strange looks but it never fails to work.

Such a great idea!! I'd be herding her, so she would understand.

I've tried the uhuh! She looks shocked, lol but stops barking.
I've also been herding her away from the kitten, that also works. I'll say 'leave it! ' and she quickly backs off from Benji and patiently wait for treat, she'll then try to 'play ' with Benji, back off on her own; looks at me expecting another treat, lol. She is too smart!

Glad if some works for you - yes, she is smart and deserve to get a lot of praise and treats
