Nutro Dog Food?

Hi everyone!
Looking for opinions(helpful ones) on the Nutro Dog Food!
I am thinking of switching from Purina Pro Plan.

Thanks!

Nutro is a good, middle-of-the-road price wise dog food with good ingredients...definitely an excellent step up from Purina. Meat is the first ingredient which is important, and it doesn't include any questionable ingredients such as wheat, corn, by-products.

If you're not familiar with dogfoodadivsor.com, it's a good place to look to find information on foods you're considering. Here's the link:

Just be sure to transition slowly, especially from a lesser quality food to a more nutrient-rich food. A quick change can bring on digestive problems. Make the change over a week or so.

We used Nutro for our Samoyed for years until he left us. Oberon, our current Sheltie, started on Nutro puppy food and was on it until he developed a mental aversion to it after getting sick (nothing to do with the food, but he "thought" it did) and we had to switch. We used the Ulta.

Thanks Ann and mimiretz!
I looked at that site and saw Nutro is listed as a good dog food but wanted some personal testi ony geared towards shelties!
Ann- you mentioned that it was rich food? Is that something I should be concerned about? My sheltie doesnt have seem to have a sensitive stomach, but I dont want to give him anything that might be too rich or heavy if it would negatively affect his health!

Thanks!

I meant rich in the sense that it's more nutrient-dense than Purina. It's not nearly as rich as some others on the market...Orijen, TOTW, etc. It's a good step up from what you're feeding to get him on a better quality food. As I said, just make the change very gradually. I've found out (the hard way, LOL) that doing it too quickly can result in days of the plops!

Nutro is a nice food, but what they did when Lucky was young the company
changed the recipe and Lucky started barfing up the food. I asked the cashier
in the store what happened because he got icky on the food.

That made sense. Now if he would have started on the change he would have
been fine I guess. Nutro has a good reputation. No recalls which is a good thing.
