October- heelwork month!

That's what I'm afraid of...getting glued to this computer even more!!! Between the U-tube videos, blogs, and everything else I can find obedience related, it's cutting into my actual training time.

For $75 I figured I'd give the online seminar a try and while I'm sitting at trials watch as much as possible. We'll see how this goes.

How is the Fanny Gott heelwork program progressing? Is she teaching the Choose to Heel method or something similar?

Dani, my two cents - any class, whether on line or regular type is worth what you put into it. Yes, there is advantage of not having travel time and train at your convenience but this also can be a trap if you do not schedule some work put in all on your own. I would suggest from experience to figure out time as much as you would for the regular class for best benefit.
As for Fanny class, people have crashed the site:lol: so it was off for last couple days. Am not sure about "Choose to heel" methods as I only watched DVD couple times so really do not remember details.
Fanny has started with Morten and Cecilie from Canis, probably oldest and most successful european obedience school, also Fanny and Thomas have been long time students of SG. All in all I would say Fanny is her own person at what she teaches and she teaches FCI obedience, although she does have many students from US so many things are similar and she describes methods she would work for US people separately when needed.

I can't afford a class right now on the internet or elsewhere, but I get to take one class for free at the obedience club.

Tonight we will start in a heeling class at the club, I sure hope I remember to bring my patience, tolerance and thick skin... and best manners. I don't know this particular trainer well, she is not a club member but is guest teaching. Her dogs are very good, hope her methods are too.

I will not use a pinch or collar/leash corrections on my dog - been there, done that and won't do it again. I will use toys, treats and fun releases!

Wish us luck... and strength to ward off peer pressure if the class puts too much pressure on us!

PS - Dani, Fannie Gott is using almost exactly, Dawn Jecs Choose To Heel!

surprise surprise, the class was FUN! We had the dogs out for only short segments and even practiced getting them out of the crate with heads up and eager for action!

She wanted to see us play and interact with our dogs. Justus got super special marks for that, we love to play!

No boring round and round in a circle heeling for this class, she promised! I believe her.

Congrats!!! Now all you have to do is to convince your club to bring this instructor on permanently! Justus and you will surely shine.

Keep us posted!

Progress! We are getting a little better with tucked feet in his sits, I'm learning how to cue him for left turns, he can find his way back to heel from a forge.

Very happy with he class, although she is not an easy teacher. She can take me to task! I think she wants me to learn and grow or she would not give me the time and attention to detail that she does.

My ego gets left in the car, and I hope to continue improving!

that sounds like it's the class that you need- glad to hear that there are already improvements:yes:

October - heelwork month!

You are very fortunate to have this quality of an instructor teach at your club! In just a few weeks she's shared with you quite a bit of information. Soak it in and thoroughly enjoy. I bet Justus is having a blast learning all these new "tricks".

yes, few people are fortunate to have really good obedience trainers near them... even fewer will teach in positive ways...
Meanwhile Denise Fenzi seminar on Building relationship with your dog is a blast! People already learned so much and I can not say how much more fun my boys are having. Denise is using parts of her upcoming book for this class. Silvia Trkman wrote terrific foreword presentation for new book.
Denise will have online obedience course in the spring, at least she promised.
Huge success for many!
