Oily Fur

Annie Laurie's fur gets oily looking so fast after a bath. Within a week, she loses that shiny, fluffy look and looks like she hasn't had a bath in a month. She doesn't get into the creek or anything the others don't. Bits and Layla don't have the same problem. Does anyone know about this?

my oldest sheltie pepper has fur like that. she has to be bathed every 2 weeks with maleseb(sp?) shampoo from the vets

I've noticed Bacca at 6 months having a bit of the same.

He's only starting to grow in his adult coat (which of course I hope will be abundant!). In the meantime, he's in a pretty slick/smooth stage and I've noticed that it seems to be lying pretty flat most of the time, except around his head.

I've not bathed him yet because he hasn't really needed it (no nasty smells, still smells more like a puppy then anything - even the Green paws went away - that's ANOTHER thread here)

But I have ordered a product by Chris Christensen a leave-in Shampoo called Show-off at the recommendation from someone on this forum. Sorry - can't remember who!

I used to have Timber groomed externally every couple of months - the full meal deal. I've decided with Bacca to do most of the grooming myself and leave the bathing to the groomers. Plus I've always heard that too much bathing is a bad thing. But I would defer to the professional showers on that as they must bathe all the time!

I'll let you know how the leave-in works for us for those between-times

Baby powder! It will absorb the oil and dry the coat out, and freshen the coat between baths.

It also really works behind the ears when they knot!

I also use Show-Off for smelly, stinky spots!

Pixie tends to get oily too, Chris. And she's my Sheltie Yak with the coat that a polar bear would kill for. Brushing helps in the short term but long term the only thing I've found is to bathe her a bit more often. I hate doing it because she's so bushy it takes her forever to dry! I've had good luck using the Buddy Bar soap on her. It has a bit of conditioner in it but not enough to add to the grease quotient. Let me know if you find a solution!

Use baby powder on her in between bathings. It will cut down the oil very much-especially if you line brush it into her coat!
