I am new to the group. Our first rescue dog was a mostly Sheltie. 9 shepherds later - retired - older - decided to go back to a Sheltie size dog. Rescued a full breed 6 yr. old male (Leo) who was causing problems in his other home. Leo lives and dies for food. He came to us at 29lbs. Our vet told us to get him down to around 24Lbs. He is now 31lbs. I purchased a slow eating bowl, feed in crate or he will eat our GSD food. Anything that drops to the floor - Leo eats. Outside he eats camellias, dirt, his own poop or Kaya's poop - if we do not get to it first. We tried all that our vet suggested to discourage the poop eating but nothing has worked. So we run behind him with the pooper scooper or at night take him to the yard on a leash. Leo gets 2-3 treats a day and 3 times a week a small dental bone. I don't know how to get weight off this little fellow and I never had this problem before with a dog. suggestions?
