Onerous grooming with sheltie?

What is this spray and do you use just water to spray them?
And what is the baby powder used for?
I've only cleaned with a real bath and now with muddy season here, I don't want to over bathe. I've gotten by with baby wipes on the muddy paws, but when it gets up on the belly and pants, then the spray thing sounds great - if I know exactly how

I use water if I don't have any spray available, but I love Ice on Ice by Chris Christensen.

I use baby powder behind the ears on the really fine hair that they have back there. It seems to reduce the amount of mats that come in. Of course, comb it out before putting the baby powder in.

You can use just water -- that works fine for a spray. Sheltie coats are somewhat fragile; moistening them reduces breakage. I also use Ice-on-Ice spray from Chris Christensen because it also conditions. I use baby powder on the white of the ruff sometimes and under the tail ALL the time!

I use fresh n clean grooming spray on gavin.
It's supposed to help keep him clean smelling since he gets bathed rather infrequently. Maybe i'll try try ice on ice when I'm done with my bottle.

Most people can't believe how little my big boy gets bathed, since he never looks dirty (well, not for long anyway, as the dirt seems to fall off) and doesn't smell 'doggy'.

I just combed him out last night, and while it is no where near groomer standards, he definitely knows he had an 'I'm pretty' session!

The hardest bit is the dreadlocks that form under the tail in the sheltie pants. I'm luck that Gavin is very understanding when I comb as gently as I can back there!

Depending on what the need is, I either brush with a leave-in Shampoo like CC's Show Off or the leave-in conditioner like CC's Ice on Ice.

I never brush without moisture of some kind to avoid breakage.

I use the leave-in Shampoo if the boys are a long time between full bathes. You spray it on, work it in with a towel, then line brush as usual. It just freshens them up all around.

Then I'll use Ice on Ice or CC's coat dressing to give some gloss to the fur.

I use baby powder behind the ears to help detangle mats. I sometimes use it all over as well - particularly the ruff. It smells lovely and it works a little bit like chalk - to give some extra definition and "hold" (i.e. make it "pouffy")
