Optic neuritis

Hello:) Am new to the forum and wanting some feedback if anyone else has experienced this with their sheltie. Our Mackenzie has recently lost her sight due to this and it is so hard to see her find new ways to adapt. She is my little girl and whatever she needs we are more than willing to do- any one else ever experience this ?

Not sure how it works with dogs, but I know optic neuritis in people very rarely causes blindness. It may result in lasting problems with color acuity, and contrast/brightness sensitivities, and overall visual acuity may decrease after repeated episodes of ON, but total blindness is not part of the usual prognosis.

I am so sorry to hear this. I wish I had advice to give you, but I don't. We do have a member here who has a blind sheltie. Her username is mbfrench, maybe send her a pm?

Thanks so much for the info :) I certainly will try to contact her and hope for the best for our girl!
