Panting & Sweltering Heat

Sage did not pant that much until he became ill. But Buggs is panting heavily now. We had his hair cut in the spring and even though it was short he still panted. But I do know that heavy water intake and panting is a definite indicator of possible problems, ruling out play and/or work, etc.
I'm constantly worried about Buggs but I am hoping the weight loss will stop a little of the panting. However we have been in the upper 90's and a couple of times in the 100's degs and Medd and Buggs are highly inclined to do the air and bed thing. I forgot that you had a Cavalier! When Timber died last April, I swore first that I would not get another puppy, period. That lasted about 1.5 days, then I swore that I would not get another Sheltie because I did not want to "replace" Timber. I looked at Cavalier's but I could not find a breeder close enough to home. So I went back to my first love, Shelties. But I do love those Cavaliers too! But I also love standard poodles, but too big for me! And yes, papillon's were sweet too. And the miniture American Eskimo....yeah, yeah, it still comes back to Shelties everytime!

If you ever change your mind and are willing to travel, my husband's aunt breeds cavaliers.

Smoke is always panting too. His panting has very distinct "styles", though, so its not constantly the same sound/expression. I can tell when its because he is too hot, because he is upset, or if he is laughing at me
